EMDR (Eye Movement Desentitisation and Reprocessing) is a technique which is generally used for helping people to get over trauma. It is based on research into neurology which has found that any regular lateral (left to right or right to left) stimulation of the nerves while focussing on an upsetting event can help to "process" that event so that it is no longer so painful. The body often does this normally through rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, but sometimes this ability gets impaired, particulary by deeply distressing trauma. By simulating the rapid eye movements of REM sleep, or if that isn't possible by stimulating other nerves (such as tapping on a client's hands) the process can happen and the trauma can be reapidly "processed".
I have completed EMDR training to level 2.
(This technique is not suitable for everyone and will only be offered after a thorough assessment and some initial sessions of psychotherapy)
