Many people may be aware that they have a difficult relationship with food and their body image but have no idea how to change. You may be fairly certain that you have an eating disorder such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia or binge eating disorder; or you may simply feel that you do not eat normally or healthily, are on a permanent diet, or are just constantly unhappy about your size and weight no matter how much or how little you eat and exercise.

Ideas about eating and body image in our society are complex and confusing and there are many myths about the causes of eating disorders.  There are also many misconceptions about obesity, its causes and the best way to achieve a healthy attitude to eating and to size. Whatever the underlying problem, most people seeking help are aware that there may be personal issues which need to be addressed if they are to make significant, long-lasting changes.

The help I offer is focussed on your individual needs, the type of problem you have and your own particular attitude to food and to your body image.  My aim is to help you understand your relationship with food and your body. We will explore together some of the ways you may be using food and eating (or not eating) to get comfort, or a sense of control in your life, and how you can do this in healthier ways. We will also consider some of the beliefs you have about body image and how that informs your sense of self and your beliefs about your acceptability in the world. We may experiment with ways in which you might begin to change your behaviour, and we will work towards you experiencing food as an enjoyable part of your life rather than a worry. We will also consider the importance of your body image in your sense of self and work towards building your confidence in yourself as a valuable human being.

I hold an Advanced Diploma in Eating Disorders and Obesity from the Nationsl Centre for Eating Disorders
